Newy Food Adventures is an award-winning food tour experience based in Newcastle, offering small group walking food tours through the city’s neighbourhoods.

You’ll be welcomed into local venues, meet the people behind the food, and most importantly enjoy the food they’re genuinely known for and proud to share.

For locals, it’s a way to see familiar places in a different light or discover something new.

For visitors, whether you’re here for a few days or just a day trip, it’s a way to experience Newcastle through someone who lives and loves it.

You come for the food. You leave seeing Newcastle a little differently.

Hey! I'm Jess

I'm a Newcastle born and bred local gal and the Founder of Newy Food Adventures.

Before introducing myself as a ‘foodie’ I wanted to be sure I was qualified to say that. A ‘foodie’ is a person who treats eating and cooking not just as a necessity, but as a passionate hobby. They actively seek out new flavours, culinary trends, and dining experiences ranging from casual street food to fine dining, purely for the pleasure of it. Yep, that’s me!

I also really love travel, and I’ve always connected with places through food. Whenever I travel, I book a food tour, not just for what you get to eat, but because it’s one of the best ways to understand a place, you know you're going to go to places that have amazing food and it’s a great way to discover places you might not find on your own.

The story of Newy Food Adventures

We all have ideas or dreams we think about “someday.” For me, Newy Food Adventures was one of those for a long time.

After doing a food tour in Leeds, England, I shared to my partner that I'd love to run food tours one day. And as a local, I also knew Newcastle had an incredible food scene worth sharing.

Fast forward to hotel quarantine in 2020 after returning from living in the UK- Newy Food Adventures was created. It then took a few years (and a lot of courage) before I officially launched it into the world in 2026, with my first tours as part of Newcastle Food Month.

Thanks for being here, I love leading these tours and I'd love for you to join a food tour one day.

Come and explore some of my favourite Newcastle neighbourhoods!

Why I do this

Because I genuinely love food and want you to experience Newcastle's food scene.

I’m the person reading reviews, saving places to try, and the one in my friendship circle suggesting where we should eat. Life’s too short for average coffee, flavourless meals, or sticking to the same order every time.

I called it Newy Food Adventures because that’s how I see food, as an adventure. There’s always something to discover, whether it’s a flavour, a story, a technique, or a place you’ve walked past a hundred times without noticing.

I personally research, design, and lead every tour (I absolutely love it and if I’m honest it doesn’t feel like work, cliché I know but it's true). I spend a lot of time choosing venues that are doing something well and shaping the experience so it flows naturally from one stop to the next.

What the experience is really about

Before I chose the venues, mapped the route, or picked a single dish, I spent time with old school cardboard, textas and my emotional culture card deck (look this up if your interested) detailing how I wanted the food tours to feel.

Why?

Because an experience is something you feel, people rarely remember every bite or every part of a tour. But they always remember how they felt. So, here’s what I hope you’ll feel as a guest on one of my tours:

Fun - Lots of laughs, good conversation, curiosity, and an easy-going atmosphere.

Connected - To the food, the people behind it, the neighbourhoods we walk through, and the people sharing the experience with you.

Inspired - By new flavours, new stories, and the passion behind what you’re eating.

Joy - Those moments when something tastes so good the table goes quiet for a second or you see the person across the table doing that food dance and smiling.

Excited - To explore Newcastle in a different way, discover a new favourite spot, the anticipation of the next stop and leave with a story you’ll want to tell someone later.

What Our Guests Are Saying

Great experience, I felt like I was on holiday in my own neighbourhood. Jess was both knowledgeable of the history of the area and the current culinary scene. I enjoyed hearing about the passionate food makers in the Throsby area and of course sampling their creations. It was also lovely to get to know other people on the tour.

Food, history, friends and sunshine

A fun and super interesting afternoon of food and facts. I am local to Newcastle and would never have visited some of the locations we visited myself. Getting to speak to the owners and creators of these food businesses felt so special. Their passion and stories of creating their business was just amazing, and all of the food was outstanding. Jess is a fantastic guide, so friendly and knowledgeable, a true local.

We did Jess’s food adventure today and honestly… it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we started, everything was seamless, fun and so thoughtfully put together. Jess is an absolute standout.

Warm, welcoming, organised and so passionate about what she does. You can feel how much she genuinely cares about creating something special for everyone on the tour. She has built beautiful relationships with each vendor and you can see she cares about showcasing local businesses and what they have to offer. The perfect balance of great food, connection, laughs and exploring Newcastle in a way you simply wouldn’t do on your own.

A Delicious Adventure- I came solo on the Tour, but felt like I made 12 new friends on the day. At each ‘eating stop’ it was easy just to take the next available seat and chat with whoever was nearby. Then the group would set out for our next destination … and again just take next seat and find out about more food adventures of the other guests.

I’m not a Newcastle local. Timing of the Tour meant I could catch train from Sydney, and just have a day of deliciousness and fun with new people, and head back the same day. Can’t wait to book the other the other food tour with Newy Food Adventures.

A small group experience exploring Newcastle through food, people, and stories.

We spend around 4 hours together, walking roughly 2.5km at a relaxed pace through Newcastle’s neighbourhoods.

Across the tour, you’ll visit local venues.

At each stop, you’re served food or drink the venue is known for-  dishes they’re genuinely proud of and known for locally.

Portions are generous. These are proper serves from places that believe in feeding people well.

Where possible, you’ll meet the people behind the food and hear a bit of their story- how it started, what it means to them, and how it fits into the neighbourhood around it.

Then we move on, usually full, curious, and a little surprised by what’s next.

Your ticket includes a fully guided 4-hour food experience through Newcastle’s Throsby precinct.

Most importantly, everything is designed and led by me- from the route, to the venues, to the flow of the day, so you don’t have to think about anything. Just show up hungry.
